My kids started asking to use deodorant
right around the same time
I began making more changes at home
in the food we eat,
the products we use,
and the things we put on our bodies every day.
I went to buy them a “clean” deodorant from the store,
but after less than a week of using it,
their skin became itchy,
red,
and irritated.

So for the first time,
I decided to try making a natural deodorant at home –
for them and for myself.
Honestly?
It worked so much better than I expected.
It feels gentle on the skin,
helps prevent odor,
feels clean,
and works perfectly throughout the day.
Since then,
this is the deodorant we use at home.
It’s suitable for both teens
and adults.

What You’ll Need
🧴 Makes about one small jar (around 100 ml)
Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tbsp shea butter
- 3 tbsp baking soda
- 3 tbsp cornstarch / potato starch
- 10-15 drops essential oil of choice
(Personally, I really love geranium) - Optional: 1 tsp vitamin E oil
Essential Oil Ideas
- Lavender – calming and gentle
- Tea tree – naturally antibacterial
- Geranium / lemon – fresh, clean scent

Instructions:
- Melt the coconut oil and shea butter using a double boiler until fully melted.
- Remove from the heat and add the baking soda and cornstarch.
- Mix well until smooth and evenly combined.
- Add the essential oils (and vitamin E oil if using).
- Transfer into a small jar and let it set.
You can also place it in the fridge for a few minutes.

How to Use
Take a small amount with your fingers
and apply to the underarms.
You really don’t need much –
a little goes a long way.
A Few Small Notes
- If you have sensitive skin – start with half the amount of baking soda.
- On very hot days, it’s best to keep it in the fridge.
- If irritation appears – you can also make a baking soda-free version.
- You can transfer it into an empty deodorant stick instead of using a jar.

If you end up making it –
I’d genuinely love to hear how it turned out for you 🤍
